Our Big Highlights from Farnborough Air Show

Our Big Highlights from Farnborough Air Show

With over 1,500 exhibitors, 73,000 trade visitors and 22 international pavilions, Farnborough Air Show stands out as one of the world’s leading examples of strength within the global aerospace industry.  Over 110 aircrafts participated in flying and static display during trade week, including a number of debut flights from the likes of Leonardo, Airbus and Bell Helicopter.

There were plenty of famous faces in attendance showing their support for the industry. The Air show kicked off with an opening ceremony led by MP and former Prime Minister David Cameron, Richard Branson was seen mingling among the crowds and Tim Peake, who recently returned from the International Space station, delivered a popular speech in the Space Zone as part of Futures Day.

Helitech International Team at Farnborough

With Helitech International 2016, Europe’s leading rotorcraft event just around the corner, our team had a busy couple of days catching up with exhibitors attending the show in October, meeting journalists and directing a film crew to capture a couple of interviews with leading figures in the rotorcraft industry. Here’s a couple of our highlights from the show:

Rotorhub It was fantastic to catch-up and interview Tony Skinner, Editor-in-chief, Rotorhub, to hear his thoughts about the issues currently facing the industry. He told us, “It’s an uncertain time for the civil helicopter industry at the moment, the show’s a good opportunity to talk about some of the safety issues we’ve seen with a couple of high profile crashes, in uncertain times you need to be up to speed with what’s going on, and at Helitech International you can find out everything you need to know.”

LeonardoLeonardo Helicopters displayed an impressive product range of civil, military, fixed and rotary wing aircrafts.  Farnborough offered the ideal platform to illustrate the rebranded company’s new developments, like the new search and rescue AugustaWestland AW101s. Robert Garavaglia, Senior Vice President, Leonardo Helicopters, commented: “Helitech International is a great way to meet our customers and present our products.  People who are involved in the industry must be there.”

FLIR SystemsTechnology specialist FLIR Systems unveiled its new airborne surveillance and targeting system at the show.  A thermal camera that combines high definition multispectral images with precision laser designation.  Andrew Saxton, Director of Marketing, FLIR, said: “as more of our customers around the world look to rotary platforms to resolve their emerging mission needs, Helitech International provides the perfect platform to take our message and products to our core customer group”.

Steve WatsonIt was great to meet and interview Steve Watson, CarteNav’s VP Business Development and chat about his thoughts on the industry. Taking centre stage in the Canadian Pavilion, CarteNav Solutions were showcasing the most recent features of its cutting edge intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technology.  Steve Watson, CarteNav Solutions, commented: “We’ve previously exhibited at Helitech International shows for a number of years when in the UK.  Our business has now expanded into Europe, so we’ve made the decision to exhibit in Amsterdam this year.”

John HydeFinally, our Exhibition Director, John Hyde loved getting in front of the camera to talk all things rotorcraft.  Filming the preview to the upcoming show in October, he is looking forward to inspiring the rotorcraft community: “As the rotorcraft market develops and the needs of our attendees evolve, it’s important for us to adapt and tailor our programme to make sure visitors and exhibitors alike make the most out of the show. We constantly look to deliver industry focussed content in an innovative way and by opening up the programme we can continue to provide more value to businesses.

“Our aim is simple – to provide a platform that stimulates new ways of operating civil and parapublic services across a number of different markets.”

As we countdown the weeks to our event in Amsterdam, 11-13 October, make sure to keep up to date with all show information by visiting the website and checking out our social media channels…
